Build Your Own Lamp Workshop - PASSAGE
from €150.00

During this hands-on workshop artists Michael Douglas Too and Lu Antram will take you through the step-by-step process of creating the PASSAGE lamp from natural concrete. PASSAGE is a customizable table lamp designed by MDT that utilizes waste materials in its construction and brings an intimate mood to any space. It also has multifunctional potential like doubling as an organizing stand for jewelry and other items.

At the end of this workshop you will walk away with your very own PASSAGE lamp (made by you) and a wealth of knowledge on how to create your own furniture and objects from natural concrete.

This workshop is offered in 2 different options…

OPTION 1:

-introduction to natural concrete, principles and best practices

-dry preparation of natural concrete mixture from sand & sawdust
-wet preparation of mixture with the addition of hydraulic lime and water

-slaking, setting and maintaining mixture after it has been added to the mold
-learning basic electrical wiring for lamps, including sockets, switches and plugs

OPTION 2:

-creating the wooden mold from repurposed wood which includes material preparation, cutting to size with the table saw and miter saw, drilling light passage holes and assembly of mold
-introduction to natural concrete, principles and best practices
-dry preparation of natural concrete mixture from sand & sawdust
-wet preparation of mixture with the addition of hydraulic lime and water

*Admission cost covers guided instruction, PPE, tools and electrical supplies. It also covers additional instructor labor outside of the workshop including mold making (if you choose OPTION 1), daily maintenance of mixture while curing and mold removal after 2 week curing period.

**As the mixture requires at least 2 weeks after setting to cure (harden) enough before transport, attendees will be able to collect their lamps from the studio starting 4 April. Lamps will not be available for collection prior to this date as it risks cracking or crumbling the lamp while curing.
